TITANIC – The Artifact Exhibition (100th Anniversary)

15 April 2012 was marked as 100th anniversay of the tragedic sinking of the Titanic in the North Atlantic. Titanic carried 2,223  people and eventually caused the deaths of 1,514 people.

Titanic was built between 1909-1911 and made her first (and the last) maiden voyage on 10 April 1912 with the route of Southampton to New York City.

Few days before arriving in New York, she hit an Iceberg (14 April 1912 – 11.40pm) and just before 02.20am, Titanic broke up and sank with over a thousan people still on board. Those in the water died within minutes from hypothermia caused by immersion in the freezing ocean. Left with 710 survivors in alll.

From the tragedy that happened in 1912, its only dicovered again in 1985 (73 years apart!) after many expeditions and finally thousands of artifacts can be recovered from the sea and put n display at museums around the world. And in 2005, with the advanced technology, reserachers even managed to solved the msytery on how the tragedy really happened.

Last week, we went to the exhibition which is held in the Marina Bay Sands Artscience Museum, and for those who keen to experince the feeling and seeing the well-preserved artifacts directly, better make your way there soon, as the exhibitions will last only till 29 April 2012.

Before your journey begin, they wil give you a “boarding pass” with a real passanger name on it (which at the end of your journey, you will find out whether that person is survived or lost…) P.S. both of ours name on the boarding pass classified as lost (or dead of course….)

Let’s the journey begin here…

Iceberg for all of us to touch and have a 'lil bit experience on how cold it is during that time!!!! Can't compare of course... but it's still freaking cold!!! Goshh....

The original design of Titanic is called to carry 32 lifeboats. The number later reduced to 20, both to cut costs and it was felt that the deck  would become too cluttered with 32 lifeboats. The 20 lifeboats have a maximum capacity of 1,178 people.  One of the great tragedies of the ship’s disaster is that only 2 of the lifeboats were filled to the capacity - all others carry fewer capacity (e.g. lifeboat no. 7 carry only 19 people out of the possible 65 people on board). This is partly due to the reluctance of passengers to leave “practically unsinkable” Titanic shortly after the ship struck the iceberg. The first seven lifeboats to  launch carried a mere 160 people out  of a possible  430 people.  More than 70 years later then the ship is discovered beneath the surface of North Atlantic. The dive to Titanic lasts between 12 to 15 hours. To conserve battery power, the submersibles descend with their engines off and minimum lighting within the sphere. The sea quickly becomes black. Once the submersibles reach the ocean floor, the crew turn on the lights and engines to begin their exploration. At the end of the dive, the submersibles release their ballasts and begin the long ascent to the surface.

Belated LOVE’s Day

I was out of town last week.. Pretty busy and glad with the outcome.. This week will have another wedding to handle, so looking forward to it :)

Anyway, a short post about Valentine’s Day that just passed last week.

Anyone try to search for the history behind this eventful day before?

Saint Valentine’s Day, often simply Valentine’s Day,is observed on February 14 each year. The original “St. Valentine” was just a lithurgical celebration of one or more early Christian saint named Valentinus. All the modern romantic connotations were added several centuries later by poets. The day first became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. By the 15th century, it had evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards.

Evntually, modern Valentine’s Day symbols include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid.

My personal opinion would be, it is a good day to remind yourself to keep the spark of romance in your relationship with your spouse/partner remain on and to remind yourself that people around you (be it your family or friends) are worthy to be loved…

Some of us may get comfortable and assume that someone will always be there.  We begin to take things for granted.  It’s only when that person is absent that we realize just how big a part of our life they really are.

So peeps, always remind yourself that falling in love is easy, but staying  in love is something very special :)

Wedding Stationery

In Asia, Wedding Stationery in a wedding event may not be something that everybody will do… Not because they don’t want to have them in their special day.. But it’s simply they are still lack of knowledge of what is wedding stationery all about.

In western countries, almost all wedding event, be it small or big scale, they would like to have it.. Mainly because it’s personal touch. You may create and design your wedding stationery based on your hobbies, occupation, memories, etc.

Wedding stationery doesn’t stop at invitation card. There are numerous other items that can be included to ensure the day runs smoothly, i.e. place cards, menus, table plans, church wedding programs and many other items; thus,  you can enjoy your special day safe in the knowledge it will go without a hitch.

No matter your wedding style, we offers invitations and stationery to accent the glamorous, fun and luxurious nature of your special event. From chic stationery to vintage wedding invitations, our designs are tailored to your style and most importantly, completely customizable!!!

No further explanation, this is why we always incorporate graphic designs services for wedding stationery in our package! It’s something worth to do and memorable for both. you and your guests!

What is Sodalite Blue actually? It’s a pantone’s cross between navy and royal blue, to add a luxurious, bold, and engaging look to their “something blue.” And guess what, sodalite blue can be your popular chosen color for Spring 2012 wedding!

You can choose to pair sodalite blue with ay of the bright color like white or yellow, peacock color and even a champagne color to bring out the elegance and boldness of the sodalite blue color.

Turtle Soup in Singapore

I’ve been wanting to write a post about TURTLE SOUP…. Wondering why @_@

First time I tried it when I went to Medan last year.. It tasted weird at first, but after few spoons of the soup, it’s actually taste quite OK.. The meat also consider quite tender..

Then, last week, we decided to give it a try to the famous turtle soup in Singapore. There’re 2 most famous one in Singapore, both called Ser Seng Herbs (Turtle) Restaurant, but one is located at 39 Tai Thong Cresent (near Potong Pasir) and the other one is at No. 29 Lorong Bachok (inside Geylang Lor 21). Based on the waitrees’ information, they both were inheritance from the grandfather, but now their run their business separately.

We tried the one in Geylang. They have various type of turtle soup that you can choose, Startign fromt he ingredient, sizes and way fo you want it to be served (normal herbal bowl or those claypot type).

The cheapest one for the person serving is $14. And it will varies if you want to have different kind of ingredient inside.

From what I know, turtle soup is good for cleansing blood, esp if  u are having a bad skin, pimples or very heaty, it is good to drink it.

The Elegance of Cheongsam

In the past few weeks, there are cheongsams hanging from racks in boutiques and market stalls, but that is only because Chinese New Year is around the corner. Chinese New Year is the only time most Chinese women would wear cheongsam, and perhaps occasionally during weddings and dinners.

Most women also find it daunting to wear the cheongsam because its tight-fitting form is unforgiving on flaws and bulges. The cheongsam shows off a woman’s shape when it is nicely tailored. It doesn’t mean you have to be stick thin to wear one.

The beauty of the cheongsam is that it can be made of different materials and in various lengths. To me, it has a simple and quiet charm, an elegance and neatness that truly reflect our Chinese culture!

So, have it spark your mood to wear cheongsam? And remember, who says cheongsam have to be in red? :)
